~ACTIVITIES~
Once you have parked your motorhome on it’s plot and have rested from your trip, there is much to do in the region, such as hiking, mountain biking or a visit to the town of Montánchez with a climb to the “Balcón de Extremadura” as a highlight. You can also combine your stay at the Alegría Camperstop with one of the parties that are organised every year in Montánchez.
~WALKING WITH JOOP~
The village of Montánchez is located in a nature reserve of the same name, the “Sierra de Montánchez”. There are many old hiking trails in the area, leading to the most picturesque and beautiful views over the landscape of Extremadura. For example, looking north, the Gredos Mountains with their snow-capped peaks in winter are thrilling to see even at a distance of 140 km. Likewise, looking west from the Castle, you can see the Sierra de San Pedro and beyond that the Sierra of San Mamede and Portugal profiled against the setting sun. Stretching far, one can see the plains and dehesa in all directions, studded with olive groves, cork trees and in the nearby hills, forests of castañas. You can of course discover all this for yourself. For the less adventurous, I offer “walking with Joop” a few times a week. Let me guide you on the most beautiful trails of the Sierra de Montánchez.
Don’t forget your camera!
~WALK~
The municipality of Montánchez has 7 well-marked trails that start from 3 to 18 kilometers. All routes start in Montánchez. The Route of El Robleda passes through the Alegría camper. You can also find the routes at the Camperstop information point.
~MOUNTAIN BIKING~
The spectacular scenery and narrow trails are ideal for mountain biking. The municipality has described 5 mountain bike routes with different levels and lengths (in total 67 km).
